From the director

Thank you for attending our production of Steel Magnolias. 

For over ten years now, since I was first introduced to these characters and this script, I have enjoyed it on many different levels. Not only for the humor it brings and the recipes it inspires, but also for the themes of love and friendship it details most eloquently. That is what this show is all about. 

It is not just about a sick girl, it is a glimpse into the mother daughter friendship of M’Lynn & Shelby, the life long friendship of Ousier and Clairee and the “accept you as you are” friendship of Truvy and Annelle. It is about the love they have for each other as they cling to that friendship in times of need and rejoice in it during times of joy.

It is my hope that through this production you remember those friends in your own life without whom you would have never made it. That you once again feel those moments of joy and sorrow in your own life that have made it a life worth living. And you leave this theater a little happier to have had those good friends and that contentment in your own life. Because, as M’Lynn says “That’s the way it should be. Life goes on.”

I would also like to give a special thank you to everyone who helped out in making this production happen. Especially Jim Loepker and Janet Marieko-Gagen, without whom we would not have this wonderful set, Jackie Boeckman the girls from “Hair-4-U” without whom we would not have the ability to “do hair” on the stage, and my lovely bride without whom I would be the male version of Ouiser.
