Welcome to our rendition of Music Man Jr.! We hope you will sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonderful music and story that will be brought to life on the stage tonight. Imagine yourself in the heart of Iowa in the summer of 1912.
Being born and raised in Iowa, I can relate to many things in this show. I was born in Cedar Rapids and grew up in Bettendorf. Right next to the river town of Davenport (which is mentioned in IA stubborn). Iowa is a wonderful state to hail from, and I have enjoyed creating the town on stage for you in this wonderful story.
The actors on stage tonight have worked very hard to achieve the best performance they can. We started our journey together just 2 months ago, where close to 100 young performers auditioned to participate in the show. We believe the best of the best are on stage performing for you tonight. The kids survived the heat, the bugs, the rain and running from ball practices and games, summer camps and vacations, band practice, and summer life to get where they are now. Just so you know, the full cast was not together on stage all at the same time until 2 days before opening night! It makes some stressful nights for the production staff when the kids miss a practice, but they work even harder the nights they arrive.
I want to thank all the performers and their families for their dedication to the performance. You all have worked really hard, now have fun with the show.
I also want to thank all the parents who helped sew or make a costume or prop, those parents who came to rehearsal and painted the set, the parents who drove their child to rehearsal all those nights, the parents who made the kids sing and memorize lines to be ready for rehearsals, and all the great help from parents when it is time to take the stage bars down, or put them back up, pick up trash, basically help anyway they can.
My biggest thank you is to the production staff. I truly surround myself with the best of the best. The sets would not be as sturdy as they are without the watchful eye and talents of Pat Kreher, Greg Kuper, Roger Rolves and Jack Eddinger. The sets would not be as beautiful without the vision of Head Set Painter, Susie Zinn. The kids would not look as good without the vision of Head Costumer, Diane Connelly. The stage is always organized when Stage Manager, Melisa Heraann is in command. Angie Hammel and Amanda Kueper Shipoopi'ed right into our dancing hearts. The kids sing in tempo and in the right key, and learned the choreography to those songs thanks to Leah Klostermann. For the technical side of the show 1 have to thank Mike Huelsmann and the rest of the tech crew for teaching me lights point toward the state and the sound points toward the audience. For keeping me sane and on the right path are 2 great assistant directors, Theresa Hammel and Megan Loddeke. Thank you to Deb Stratmann for always getting what ever we need whenever we need it. Also, a big thank you to all who he-lped get us "tech" ready. It went all very smooth with everyone's help.
Lastly,, I want to thank my family Jerry and Brianna. Once again for the 4th summer in a row, you have shared me with a bunch of other kids. I love you both and thank you for your support.
